"A burst of an idea took over and wouldn't let me go," says the author of her premiere novel.The story of an eighteen year old girl, Jenna who spends the summer with her grandfather in the small town of New Roads, Louisiana just fell into place like puzzle pieces the author explains her process and inspiration.
The plot of Altered holds curses and secrets. When Jenna discovers a cursed book that holds secret writings and a hidden message she must find a way to alter the curse to save a life. Will Jenna's choice remain a secret? Or did the secret choose her?
This paranormal romance is filled with mystery and a secret connection Jenna never knew her family had.
As a member of the Baton Rouge Romance Writer's Group, HeartLa and as a parent Burks is very aware of what parents look for in their children's writing selections. She loves paranormal romance but she tells other parents that her novel Altered has the stamp of parental approval. "I kept this book clean. No need to worry. There are no bedroom scenes or anywhere else for that matter!" She explains that Altered is appropriate for all ages, "Just the innocence and feelings of falling in love."
Laura loves the young adult genre, as a writer in this genre she appeals to both teen and adult readers.
